Delta Airlines Centennial-Themed Trading Card Series Marks 100 Year History with 10-Card Milestone Set

Delta unveils a bold new 2025 trading card collection celebrating its 100th anniversary with pilots handing out over 5 million cards starting March 25.

Centennial-themed trading card collection debuts with 10 aircraft featured

Delta Air Lines, marking its 100th year in operation, has launched a Centennial-themed trading card collection aimed at connecting with travelers and aviation fans. As the first U.S. airline to reach the century milestone, Delta is introducing this set of 10 colorful, branded aircraft cards beginning March 25. The limited series will be distributed by pilots and also featured in commemorative gift sets available through the airline’s website.

The cards are more than promotional materials—they are a reflection of Delta’s evolution and aviation history. They feature models like the A220-300, 717, 737-800, A321NEO, 757-200, 767-300, A330-900, and A350. Delta Connection customers may also receive cards for CRJ-900 and E175, depending on their flight.

Delta pilots have handed out millions of trading cards over the past 22 years, with over 3 million distributed in 2024 alone,” said Ryan Gumm, Senior Vice President of Flight Operations. “This simple, yet impactful interaction between our pilots and customers elevates and enriches the flight experience – and has created meaningful connections and memorable moments along the way.

Centennial-themed trading card rollout includes limited gift set

In addition to in-flight distribution, a limited-edition Delta gift card set will include two exclusive trading cards, available for purchase starting in April. It’s the only other way to obtain these cards without being on a flight. The commemorative packaging positions it as a collectible for aviation enthusiasts or a thoughtful gift.

Delta’s first card debuted in 2003 during the MD-11 retirement. Over two decades, the airline has expanded the lineup to include 68 different aircraft cards over seven series. The centennial series marks a new era with bolder branding, an expanded rollout, and special-edition cards that double as keepsakes.

Centennial-themed trading card tradition started 22 years ago

The 2025 release builds on a 22-year tradition. Delta’s trading card program began in 2003 with the launch of a card commemorating the MD-11 aircraft retirement. Since then, the cards have grown in popularity—especially among younger travelers, families, and aviation enthusiasts.

What started as a novelty has become one of the more unusual but beloved in-flight engagement efforts among U.S. carriers. According to the airline, over 3 million cards were handed out in 2024 alone. That number is expected to rise significantly with the 2025 Centennial collection.

Unlike Delta, other U.S. airlines have not adopted a comparable, sustained trading card program. While some international airlines, including All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Lufthansa, have issued occasional aviation-themed memorabilia or collectible items, none have established a trading card tradition with consistent distribution or branding across decades.

Delta’s Michigan Presence and What Flyers Can Expect

For Michigan travelers—especially those flying out of Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), where Delta maintains one of its largest hubs—this campaign offers a personal and nostalgic experience. The trading cards are not just souvenirs; they’re part of the travel culture for many Midwestern families, especially those with children interested in aviation.

With Michigan’s strong ties to aerospace engineering and commercial air travel, Delta’s decision to continue and expand its card program may resonate more deeply here. The cards serve as keepsakes, educational tools, and conversation starters—adding warmth to the often impersonal world of commercial flying.
