Lake Huron is one of the five Great Lakes that border Michigan and is shared with Canada. Lake Huron and Lake Michigan are of the same depth and meet at the Straits of Mackinac.

Sleeper State Park was the first state park in the Thumb. With an excellent beach and camp sites it has been a place to camp and visit for over 95 years. Visitors can watch both sunrises and sunsets on Saginaw Bay, relax in the shade and seclusion of the campground or roam the trails of the ancient dune forests. It’s one of the most widely visited parks in Southeast Michigan. Yet still contains amazing secrets.
The Coast Guard Station at Harbor Beach, originally built in 1910 and relocated in 1935, served as a training facility during WWII before closing in 1987. Despite preservation efforts, the station was demolished in 2004. It played a significant role in the Great Lakes waterway system and local maritime history.
The Michigan House passed a trio of related bills that will cease all commercial perch fishing on the state’s Great Lakes. The “Trio” also continues to ban the taking of walleye and lake trout by the remaining 13 commercial fishing companies left in Michigan. The next step will be a vote in the Senate where it will face a competing bill that is less damaging to Michigan commercial fishing
Lakes Huron and Michigan continue to rise in 2019 . This took it very close to breaching lake water levels records last set in May 1986. Its expected to be a record setting year in 2020.
It’s soooo close. The Detroit Army Corps of Engineers is reporting that all of the Great Lakes have exceed record water levels last seen in the 1980’s, except for the Lake Huron-Michigan Water Levels.
