For the 10th consecutive year, anonymous donors have generously contributed to brighten the Christmas season for Huron County residents facing hardships. In the coming weeks, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office will deliver $100 cash gifts or food gift certificates to individuals and families who have experienced significant challenges this year, such as losing a loved one, serious illness, unemployment, or unexpected guardianship responsibilities.

A Decade Of Anonymous Giving
This heartfelt initiative, initiated by compassionate Huron County citizens who chose to remain unnamed, involves careful selection of recipients through collaboration with local police agencies, clergy, municipal leaders, schools, and various organizations. Over the past nine years, the annual donations have averaged around $5,000, with some years seeing contributions between $7,000 and $12,000 and a remarkable peak of $28,000 in one year.
The selection process, though challenging, is a profound honor for the Sheriff’s Office, reflecting the deep trust placed in us by these generous individuals. Distribution typically extends to New Year’s Day, as deputies aim for surprise deliveries, often finding recipients not at home initially.
This year’s contributions continue a legacy of generosity, adding to a nine-year collaboration with Toys for Tots. Together, these efforts have amassed over $303,000 in cash and toys, benefiting thousands in our community.
The people of Huron County stand out for their exceptional spirit of caring and sharing. As Sheriff, alongside my deputies, we are grateful for this opportunity to serve and extend our thanks to all volunteers, contributors, and organizations involved.
We invite anyone interested in contributing to Huron County Christmas Donations to contact the Sheriff’s Office during regular business hours.
