Five people were shot at a Saginaw street gathering on August 16, including one critically wounded person struck by a car — now under investigation by the Major Case Unit.
SAGINAW, Mich. — Detectives from the Saginaw Major Case Unit are investigating a shooting that injured five people late Saturday, August 16, 2025, after a large street gathering turned violent in the area of Perkins Street and 23rd, officials said.
Preliminary information indicates that at about 10:20 p.m., a crowd gathered in the street when several shots were fired. Officers found one of the victims lying in the roadway, reportedly struck by a vehicle after being shot — the individual was in critical condition at a local hospital. Four additional victims arrived at the Covenant Emergency Department with gunshot wounds; their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and they were listed in good condition.
Investigators continue to face challenges. Saginaw authorities noted a persistent lack of cooperation from victims and witnesses in violent crime investigations, hampering progress. As of now, no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective-Sergeant Taylor at 989-297-8657, or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 800-422-STOP (800-422-4295).

Michigan community shaken by street violence, one critically injured after shooting
This shooting marks a troubling flashpoint in Saginaw. The convergence of bystanders and a large gathering created a dangerous scene, leaving one person severely injured and others wounded. The intersection of Perkins Street and 23rd became the focus of a coordinated investigative response by the Major Case Unit.
Investigators cite a pattern of witness silence slowing criminal investigations in Saginaw
A long-standing issue in Saginaw, the reluctance of victims and bystanders to cooperate with law enforcement continues to hinder efforts. Police emphasized that community involvement is essential to solving violent crimes, yet many cases stall because critical information isn’t forthcoming.
Emergency departments treating multiple gunshot victims, only one in critical condition
Covenant ER treated four victims and listed them in good condition, with non-life-threatening injuries. However, one victim continues to fight for life after being shot and struck by a vehicle. The combination of gunfire and being hit by a car complicates the prognosis and length of recovery.
