Saginaw Resource Fair Delivers Vital Help to 35+ Groups

Saginaw resource fair

The Saginaw resource fair consists of over 35 organizations gathering at Bliss Park to connect residents with health, housing, and employment support services.

Wide Range of Essential Services Offered at Bliss Park

SAGINAW, MI – The Saginaw Community Resource Fair returns on June 17, offering residents direct access to dozens of local service providers under one roof. Organized by the City of Saginaw Neighborhood and Inspections Division, the event runs from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Bliss Park and is free to the public.

With more than 35 organizations participating, the fair brings together a broad network of support for individuals and families. Residents will have the chance to speak directly with representatives offering assistance in areas such as housing, mental health, job training, youth development, senior services, transportation, and more.

City Officials Stress the Saginaw Resource Fair’s Role in Connecting Residents

Cassi Zimmerman, Director of Planning and Economic Development for the City of Saginaw, underscored the importance of the event in a public statement.

“The Community Resource Fair is a one-day, one-stop event to learn more about the incredible services and assistance that is available. We understand that so many Saginaw residents and families need some sort of support, and this is a fantastic opportunity for local organizations to directly engage with residents and showcase the valuable services they provide,” Zimmerman said in the city’s press release.

Zimmerman added that with over 35 participating organizations, nearly every area of community need is represented. She thanked the local agencies partnering with the city, emphasizing the goal to educate and empower citizens.

Organizations Represent a Cross-Section of Local Assistance

Organizations slated to participate include state agencies, healthcare providers, educational institutions, nonprofit groups, and law enforcement. Among them:

  • Michigan Works! offering job placement and training services.
  • Saginaw Community Mental Health providing behavioral health resources.
  • Saginaw Economic Development Corporation assisting small businesses and entrepreneurs.
  • Covenant Healthcare offering health and wellness information.
  • Disability Network, United Way of Saginaw County, Saginaw ISD Head Start Preschool, and others addressing specialized community needs.

Notably, law enforcement and public safety agencies such as the Saginaw Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Special Victims Unit will also be on-site to engage directly with the public.

Tackling Critical Needs for Saginaw Residents

The City of Saginaw continues to face many of the same social and economic challenges seen across Michigan’s mid-sized cities. According to recent census data, Saginaw’s median household income remains well below the state average, while poverty and unemployment rates are higher than statewide figures

Events like the Saginaw Community Resource Fair attempt to fill some of these gaps by connecting residents with organizations that can offer meaningful help in stabilizing families and improving long-term outcomes.

Community Events Support Michigan’s Broader Health Equity Goals

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has promoted similar multi-agency resource events as part of its ongoing Health Equity Roadmap, launched in 2022. The roadmap prioritizes reducing disparities in health outcomes by improving access to community resources, particularly in historically underserved urban areas like Saginaw?MDHHS, Health Equity Roadmap, 2022, https://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/keep-mi-healthy/health-equity?.

By bringing dozens of services together into one event, the Saginaw Community Resource Fair directly aligns with these broader public health strategies.
