Delta’s latest app update promises more control, quicker rebooking, and smarter international planning for Michigan travelers and beyond.
Delta Air Lines Enhances Mobile Tools for Summer Flyers

With summer travel about to ramp up, Delta Air Lines has released Fly Delta app version 7.0, packed with new tools aimed at reducing stress and giving passengers more control. The updated app, now live and expanding features through the season, focuses on real-time flight updates, personalized alerts, and self-service travel tools that could be particularly useful to flyers navigating busy hubs like Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW).
The airline says more than 85% of SkyMiles Members already rely on the app when flying. This version marks a major leap forward as Delta integrates new AI features, improved loyalty functions, and proactive customer notifications into its digital platform.
Missing a Flight? Delta’s App May Get You on the Next One
Starting in June, domestic travelers disrupted by delays or cancellations will be able to self-book standby seats for earlier same-day flights directly from the app. This feature is limited to customers on nonstop routes or the final segment of their trip and only applies to U.S. domestic flights.
This update removes the need for phone calls or waiting in rebooking lines — changes Delta says reflect growing passenger expectations for autonomy during disruptions.
Fly Delta App Adds Real-Time Updates on the Lock Screen
For iPhone users running iOS 16 or later, the new app introduces Live Activities, which provide real-time updates via lock screen notifications. This includes boarding times, door closures, in-flight tracking, and arrival alerts, starting three hours before scheduled departure.
It’s part of Delta’s broader push to offer more proactive and personalized communication, particularly when plans change or delays occur.
Delta Taps Loyalty With SkyMiles and Uber Integration
Platinum and Diamond Medallion Members can now redeem Global and Regional Upgrade Certificates directly in the app. In addition, beginning June 1, all Choice Benefit selections will be made through the app, not via desktop.
Another highlight: Delta’s new partnership with Uber allows SkyMiles members to earn points on eligible rides and Uber Eats orders over $40. That benefit is limited to U.S. users and can be activated by linking accounts through the Fly Delta app.
New Tools Support Travelers Headed Overseas
Planning an international trip from Michigan? The app’s next update will alert travelers about missing documents or entry requirements based on destination, helping avoid costly boarding issues.
For example, flyers leaving from DTW to international destinations like Toronto, London, or Tokyo will receive alerts if they lack travel authorizations or documents required by local governments.
Delta’s Long-Term Bet: AI-Powered Digital Concierge Experience
Looking ahead, Delta is investing in Delta Concierge, an AI-driven customer support system. Expected to launch later this year, the tool will learn from customer behavior to offer real-time assistance with a human touch.
Eric Phillips, Delta’s Senior VP and Chief Digital Officer, stated: “We’re continuously improving the Fly Delta app to make it the ultimate travel companion, enhancing every step of the customer journey.”
Phillips also referenced the company’s CES 2025 announcement, which outlined plans for a Delta-centric AI system to further personalize and streamline air travel.
