According to the Shelby Township Police Department, the incident occurred around 3:17 p.m. near Van Dyke Avenue and 22 Mile Road. An officer initiated a traffic stop on a white Dodge Caravan. The sole occupant exited the vehicle and fled on foot, leading officers behind nearby businesses.

During the chase, the officer deployed a Taser, which was ineffective. The suspect then reportedly drew a weapon. Despite multiple commands to drop the firearm, the officer discharged their weapon, striking the man. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigation Underway by Macomb County Sheriff’s Office
