Attorney General Dana Nessel reveals the top Michigan consumer complaints of the year, warning residents about fraud and scams affecting their finances.
Michigan’s Most Common Consumer Complaints in 2024
As part of National Consumer Protection Week, Attorney General Dana Nessel has released a list of the top consumer complaints of 2024, offering insight into the most prevalent scams and disputes affecting Michigan residents. The announcement underscores the continued efforts of the Consumer Protection Team, which received over 10,000 written complaints and more than 20,000 phone calls last year.
The Michigan Consumer Protection Act (MCPA) plays a key role in enforcing consumer rights, and Nessel’s office successfully recovered $1.9 million in refunds, settlements, and complaint mediation for Michigan consumers and businesses in 2024.

- Telecommunications & Cable Disputes – Wireless providers, cable, and satellite TV billing issues rounded out the top ten.
Protecting Consumers & Combating Fraud
Nessel emphasized that consumer scams evolve constantly, and her office works year-round to educate the public and issue fraud alerts. The Consumer Protection Team reviews every complaint filed and works with partners such as the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and AARP to combat fraudulent practices.
“I am incredibly proud of the work my Consumer Protection Team does every year to help Michigan residents resolve complaints and fight back against fraud,” Nessel said. “Our efforts are making a real difference.”
