The town continues its ice storm recovery efforts through beautification projects, including replanting efforts to replace destroyed vegetation.
Per best practices, the town has been searching for native, fast-growing species.
Enter Toxicodendron radicans, commonly known as Eastern Poison Ivy and identified by its stunning yellowish-white flower clusters and sets of three-toothed leaflets. It thrives in partly shaded areas, which experts advised would make it an excellent candidate for planting throughout the island, especially in town parks.
Officials are so pleased with the decision that they appear flushed, almost red, with pride after handling the plants.
