Scene of the Crash: Car Slams Through Porch in Quiet Lexington Neighborhood

At approximately 7:53 a.m. on July 28, emergency crews in Lexington, Michigan, were dispatched to a serious two-vehicle personal injury crash at the intersection of Main Street and Hubbard. When units from the Lexington Fire Department arrived on scene, they found one vehicle had careened off the road, crashed through the porch of a home, and come to rest lodged against the front exterior wall.

The impact collapsed part of the home’s elevated porch, destroying support posts and railing. Debris was scattered across the sidewalk and yard, and both vehicles were left visibly totaled—one red vehicle’s front end crumpled, the other wedged into the house just feet from a large tree.

According to a statement released by the Lexington Fire Department, both vehicle occupants were treated on-site for injuries and transported to a local area hospital. Injuries were reported as minor.

Responders included personnel from Lexington Fire, Croswell EMS, Croswell Police Department, Lexington Police, the Michigan State Police, and Sal’s Towing, who later cleared the wrecked vehicles. Emergency crews remained at the scene, directing traffic and assisting with recovery for an extended period.

One firefighter can be seen in photos directing traffic as crews coordinated efforts. A police vehicle blocked access to a section of Main Street near the accident zone, which is situated near signage for Lexington’s popular Bach Festival, a key summer tourism draw.

The home at 5854 Main Street, which sustained visible damage to its porch and possibly the foundation wall, had not been declared structurally compromised at the time of reporting. The full extent of property damage is under evaluation.

Crash Investigation Continues Amid Questions About Cause

Officials say the cause of the accident remains under investigation. No details have been released about potential contributing factors, such as speed, driver impairment, weather conditions, or mechanical failure.

While neither vehicle’s occupants suffered serious harm, residents expressed concern over the severity of the crash and the proximity of the wreck to pedestrians and homeowners. Lexington’s downtown corridor often sees foot traffic in the early morning hours, especially in summer months.

Photos from the scene suggest that one vehicle may have struck the other at or near the intersection, causing the black car to veer off the road and strike the residence. However, the Lexington Police Department and Michigan State Police have not released an official account of the crash mechanics.

Lexington Fire Applauds Coordinated Response, Urges Caution

Fire officials commended the coordinated multi-agency response. “Lexington Fire responded with our Engine and Rescue,” the department’s report stated. “We remained on scene directing traffic until both vehicles were removed.”

The accident serves as a reminder of the importance of cautious driving in residential zones and near intersections. With summer events like the Bach Festival ongoing in Lexington, increased traffic volume heightens the risk of collisions.
