1. Sandy Shores Campground
Sandy Shores Campground is located in the eastern part of Lake Michigan, south of Ludington. The place was named after its clean sandy beaches encompassing Silver Lake, where the camp sits. Numerous grassy sites, well-maintained and paved roads, secured entrances, and various grocery stores nearby exist.
Aside from public beaches, several private beaches offer various commodities and luxury services. People who avoid crowded beaches during pandemic times should invest a few dollars and go to private beaches instead.
Although Lake Michigan is right around the corner, Sandy Shores Campgrounds sits away from the big lake beside its much smaller counterpart – Silver Lake. The camp is across from Silver Lake State Park, which has direct beach access to Lake Michigan so that you can add variety to your camping experience.

2. Weko Beach
Weko Beach Campground is on the southeast side of Lake Michigan, right beside the Red Arrow Highway and North of the famous Warren Dunes State Park. This campground is fairly isolated, given that most big box stores and hotels are at least an hour’s drive away.
The Weko Beach campground is west of Bridgman, where you can stock up on supplies and visit some of the local attractions, such as the Transient Artisan Ales and The Haymarket breweries as the Himalaya Textiles specialty gift shop.

3. St. Ignace Campgrounds

It’s a lively place populated by roughly 2,500 locals, and it’s famous for its exceptional lodging options, such as the Voyager Inn, Aurora Borealis Motel, and Quality Inn Lakefront. However, the Bavarian Haus Lakefront Inn offers the best view.

4. Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park
Unlike most Lake Michigan camping spots, the ones surrounding the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness Area (aka The Porkies) in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are not for the faint of heart. Extreme camping enthusiasts can endeavor to brave the infamous Summit Peak, which offers a gorgeous view of the countryside and an isolated fortress of branches and leaves.
Although these mountains are closer to Lake Superior than to Lake Michigan, the Porcupine Campgrounds are fairly close to both. The Porcupine Campgrounds feature multiple camping locations. These include the Langford Lake campground, Pomeroy Lake campground, and numerous smaller campgrounds. Balsam, Maple, Perch, Pine, Beaver, Mink, Bear, Wolf, Racoon, and Bobcat campgrounds are choice small footprint camps.

5. Leelanau State Park
