CASEVILLE — Ribstock opened Friday night with barbecue, cold drinks and a patio crowd packed in tight at Thumb Brewery, where Ferndale musician Devyn Mitchell helped set the tone for one of Caseville’s busiest early-summer weekends.

Mitchell, a vocalist, guitarist, live musician and music teacher, performed a run of popular cover songs before a standing-room crowd on the brewery patio. The show came during the opening night of Caseville’s 18th Annual Ribstock Festival, a three-day event built around ribs, live music and small-town summer traffic.

For many in the crowd, Mitchell’s set was more than background music. Her acoustic style, clear vocals, and easy stage presence gave the patio a relaxed but lively feel as visitors moved between Ribstock events, dinner tables, and the brewery’s outdoor space.

Mitchell has built a following across Michigan as a solo performer, bringing guitar-driven covers to breweries, restaurants, bars, private events, and community gatherings. Her appeal rests on a simple formula: familiar songs, a strong voice, and a friendly connection with the audience.

Mitchell is a Crowd Favorite

That connection shows up in listener comments.

“Devyn is fabulous,” one reviewer wrote. “Her voice is like warm butter on a hot roll. Her song transitions are seamless, even in a loud bar or tavern setting.”

Another listener said Mitchell’s Thumb Brewery performance made for “a perfect ending to a mini vacation weekend.”

Others praised her range of songs and her personality. One reviewer wrote that Mitchell had an “awesome voice and range of songs,” while another called her an “incredible artist with a great voice and great vibe.”

Friday’s patio show also gave Thumb Brewery a strong start to Ribstock weekend. The brewery, located at 6758 Pine St. in Caseville, has become a regular stop for live music, craft beer and casual summer gatherings just off the Lake Huron shoreline.

Ribstock continues through Sunday with ribs, music, family events and fundraisers across Caseville. But Friday night’s Thumb Brewery crowd showed why live local music remains a central part of the festival’s draw.

For one evening, a Ferndale musician with a guitar turned a busy brewery patio into one of the warmest stops of Ribstock weekend.
