Rain to Snow: Michigan’s Weather Twists Ahead

Morning Snow Showers Could Disrupt Commutes

Michigan weather snow showers

Southeast Michigan is waking up to light snow showers, primarily impacting areas along and south of M-59. Temperatures hover in the mid-30s, but forecasters predict only minor accumulations—dusting to half an inch. The National Weather Service (NWS) urges caution during the morning commute as slick spots may develop despite warmer pavement.

Radar shows moisture feeding in from Lake Michigan, fueling these early snow showers. The activity is expected to diminish by late morning.

Rain Showers Expected to Return Friday

Rain showers will make a comeback tonight and persist into Friday, particularly east of U.S. 23. A combination of Atlantic moisture and cyclonic flow around a weakening low-pressure system will drive precipitation.

Despite chilly conditions, temperatures are not expected to dip low enough for significant snow on Friday. Areas along Lake Huron may experience enhanced rainfall due to moisture wrapping in from Canada.

Weekend Break from Precipitation

Southeast Michigan will see a reprieve from unsettled weather this weekend. A ridge of high pressure moving in Saturday will bring dry conditions, with temperatures near 40°F. However, changes loom by Sunday as a developing low-pressure system could bring light rain by nightfall, followed by a better chance of showers on Monday.

Long-range forecasts hint at a mix of rain and snow by Tuesday, but exact details remain uncertain as weather models work out differences. Residents should prepare for cooler conditions to persist through next week.
