Sleeper State Park Campground Closed – A Pause for Progress

CASEVILLE, MI — Sleeper State Park, a favored camping and swimming park in Michigan’s Thumb, is taking a short break. The Sleeper State Park Campground Closed, and the day-use toilet building at this 723-acre sanctuary is shutting its doors through May 22, 2024. The reason? A significant upgrade to the park’s sewer system.

Sleeper State Park, a 723-acre haven, is known for its rich blend of forested dunes, wetlands, and a stunning half-mile of sandy shoreline along Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay. It’s a place where visitors can witness both sunrises and sunsets, explore forested trails, lounge on the beach, and enjoy the modern campground.

The Day-Use Area: A Visitor’s Delight

Directly across M-25/Port Austin Road, the day-use area offers a half-mile of sandy beach, a beach house, and a picnic area, all easily accessible via a pedestrian overpass bridge.

Sleeper State Park is named after Albert E. Sleeper, the governor of Michigan (1917-1920), who played a crucial role in establishing Michigan’s state park system.
