EAGLE HARBOR, Mich. — The Keweenaw County Historical Society is in its 2026 season, offering public access to 8 historic sites and 11 museums across the county.
The Keweenaw County Historical Society Museums cover the county’s mining, maritime, fishing, education and religious history. Most locations remain open into October, with hours varying by site.
The Eagle Harbor Light Station Museums, including the lighthouse, are open through Oct. 11. In July and August, the complex is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. September and October hours are noon to 5 p.m.
Admission to the Eagle Harbor Light Station complex is $8. Children under 16 and Keweenaw County Historical Society members are admitted free.
Several other society sites are open without an admission charge, though donations are requested.
The Central Mine Visitors Center and display houses are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 11. The Phoenix Church and Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 11. The Bammert Blacksmith Shop at Phoenix is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 11.
The Rathbone School Museum, also known as the Knights of Pythias Museum, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 11. The Eagle Harbor Life Saving Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 11.

The Eagle River Museum is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday through Oct. 10.
The School at Gay is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday through Oct. 10. Visits also may be arranged by appointment by calling or texting Nancy at 616-485-0086.
The society posted on June 20 that all sites are open for the season.
Several July events remain on the society’s calendar. “Adventures in History: Wolf’s Mouth: History, Suspense, Crime, and a Love Story Set in a Prisoner of War Camp in the Upper Peninsula” is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 15 at the Eagle Harbor Community Center, also known as the Schoolhouse.
The Blessing of the Animals is set for 1 p.m. on July 19 at Phoenix Church.
“Fishing Discovery & Fishing With A Ranger” is scheduled for 1 p.m. July 22 at the Eagle Harbor Lifesaving Station.
Another “Adventures in History” program, featuring Oren Tikkanen and the Back Room Jazz and Polka Band, is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 22 at the Donny Kilpela Memorial Park Stage in Copper Harbor.
The Keweenaw County Historical Society is based at 670 Lighthouse Road in Eagle Harbor and is a Keweenaw National Historical Park Heritage Site.
