Caseville is a little city in Michigan’s Thumb that calls it itself the “perch capital of the world”. Located at the mouth of the Pigeon River that help make this area a boating destination. Well known for its large sandy beach, abundant fishing and its unique shops and festivities.
The area is known for its abundance of vacation homes and cottages. Blessed with sugar sand along the beach, it’s been drawing families to spend the summers here for over two generations.
Home of the Shanty Days Festival in the winter and the famous Cheeseburger Festival in the closing days of the summer. Caseville is the fun city in the thumb.

Five years ago the entire Great Lakes was witness to low water levels not seen since 1964. Marina’s were dredging, boats were being damaged on shallow reefs not seen a generation and lake shipping was facing hard times.
More vendor’s, top acts, the Cheeseburger grills are well seasoned and so is the staff. It’s also a bit sad. The waning hours signal the end of the summer. It’s only days away from the Labor Day weekend.

The bar resides in an historic 1800s building that once was a church then a hotel. The stained glass is still intact.
The EPA and the State of Michigan designated the entire region as a potential environmental disaster. The deterioration and pollution were so bad that the label of “Area of Concern” was slapped on the Saginaw Bay in 1987 and has not been lifted for 30 years. We examine what has happened in that time.
