Drivers on I-75 in Bay County face temporary rolling closures on Nov. 18 as MDOT conducts critical maintenance to extend the bridge’s lifespan.

I-75 Northbound Closure in Bay County for $927,000 Bridge Project

Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, November 18, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will initiate rolling closures on northbound I-75 just north of M-84 in Bay County. The closures, which are expected to last until 2 p.m., are part of an ongoing effort to improve the bridge over the Huron and Eastern Railway.

The project, valued at approximately $927,000, includes several essential maintenance tasks such as epoxy overlay, concrete deck and substructure patching, slope paving repair, and resealing of deck joints. Additionally, MDOT will install temporary supports and apply a surface sealer to prolong the bridge’s service life.

What Drivers Can Expect on Monday

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., motorists traveling northbound on I-75 can expect periodic delays and potential traffic backups as crews perform necessary work. Intermittent single- and double-lane closures, as well as shoulder closures, will be in effect. While delays are anticipated, MDOT encourages drivers to plan ahead and exercise caution when approaching the work zone.

Safety and Economic Impact

MDOT’s efforts aim to ensure safer travel by addressing immediate bridge maintenance needs, thus extending the structure’s longevity. Beyond safety improvements, the investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 11 jobs, according to economic modeling data.

This initiative represents a focused effort to maintain critical infrastructure and enhance roadway safety in Bay County, highlighting MDOT’s commitment to ongoing infrastructure improvements across Michigan.
