19-Year-Old Carsonville Man Injured in Snowmobile Crash Near Shabbona Road

WHEATLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 19-year-old Carsonville man sustained injuries after crashing his snowmobile into a drainage ditch in Sanilac County on Thursday morning, according to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred at approximately 11:16 a.m. on February 13, 2025, near the intersection of Shabbona Road and Merriman Road. Sanilac County Central Dispatch received an emergency call reporting the crash, prompting a rapid response from Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies, Deckerville Fire Department, and Sanilac EMS.

Crash Details: Rider Ejected After Hitting Drainage Ditch

Authorities determined that the Carsonville man was operating a 2003 SKIDOO snowmobile on private property when he struck a drainage ditch, causing him to lose control and be ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided immediate medical attention.

The injured rider was later transported to Aspire Rural Health – Marlette Hospital for further treatment. The severity of his injuries has not been disclosed.

No Alcohol or Drugs Involved in the Incident

According to investigators, alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash. Authorities have not indicated whether excessive speed or visibility issues contributed to the accident.

Snowmobile accidents are a common concern in Michigan, particularly during the winter months when trail conditions and terrain can lead to unpredictable hazards. Riders are urged to exercise caution, wear protective gear, and remain aware of their surroundings while operating snowmobiles.
