Consumers Energy is launching a new workplace EV charging initiative, offering rebates for businesses and driving the expansion of Michigan’s electric vehicle infrastructure.
Consumers Energy Launches EV Workplace Charging Initiative, Targeting 500 Sites by 2030
Lauren Snyder, Consumers Energy’s vice president of customer experience, highlighted the importance of workplace charging in accelerating EV adoption. “We’re breaking down barriers that will help get EVs into driveways at home, to fast public chargers, and now, places where we work,” said Snyder. “Employers who are looking to attract and keep good workers now have another tool that will allow them to charge at work.”
Consumers EV Charger Rebate
The new program offers businesses a $7,500 rebate for installing two or more EV chargers, providing a significant boost for companies eager to meet growing employee demand for charging options. Surveys indicate that up to 75% of EV drivers are seeking the ability to charge at work. Businesses that make their charging stations available to the public can qualify for even larger rebates, expanding access to EV charging across both private and public spaces.

This announcement comes as Consumers Energy continues to push forward with its goal of fostering a cleaner, more sustainable Michigan. The company reports that the number of electric vehicles in its service area has tripled over the last four years, a clear sign of rising interest in EVs. As part of its broader efforts, Consumers Energy projects it will power 1,500 public fast-charging locations across the state by 2030, as EV adoption grows and Michigan moves toward a carbon-neutral energy future.
Consumers Energy’s Clean Energy Plan plays a critical role in supporting EV infrastructure, aiming to eliminate coal use by 2025 and meet 90% of customers’ energy needs through renewable sources like wind and solar. As the state’s largest energy provider, the company serves 6.8 million residents in the Lower Peninsula and is leading the charge in creating a greener Michigan.
Driving EV Growth and Awareness
The workplace charging program is just one aspect of Consumers Energy’s broader commitment to making EV ownership more convenient and affordable. The company recently participated in National Drive Electric Week, encouraging more drivers to switch to clean energy vehicles. Additionally, Consumers Energy is sponsoring an EV test drive event this Saturday in Kalamazoo, providing Michiganders an opportunity to experience electric vehicles firsthand.
As EV adoption accelerates, workplace charging is becoming an increasingly important component in Michigan’s electric vehicle ecosystem. By 2030, Consumers Energy’s initiative will not only provide practical charging solutions but will also help businesses support the state’s transition to a greener, more sustainable future.
