Dry weekend gives way to rain and colder weather across Michigan, with temperatures dropping below normal starting Tuesday through next weekend.
Clouds Persist as Michigan Braces for Monday Storm
DETROIT — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:30 AM EST on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
Weekend Weather: Cloudy but Dry Conditions Persist
The Great Lakes region is enjoying a dry weekend thanks to a weak high-pressure system moving into the area. However, residents may not see much sunshine, as cloudy skies dominate due to lingering low-level moisture.
Saturday and Sunday will see temperatures in the mid to upper 40s, slightly warmer than Friday. Highs may reach the low 50s by Monday morning as southwest winds bring brief warmth.
Storm Expected to Develop Monday Over Michigan
The quiet weather ends Monday as a northern-stream trough combines with a Pacific jet system over the western Great Lakes, causing a storm to form directly over southern Michigan.
- Rain: Light showers will begin Monday morning and persist into the evening. Heavier rain is expected east of the state.
- Temperatures: A sharp drop to below-normal levels will begin Tuesday, extending into next weekend.
- Snow Potential: Some areas may see a rain-to-snow transition early Tuesday, but no accumulation is expected.
Marine Advisory: Small Craft Caution for Lake Huron
Small Craft Advisories remain in effect along the Lake Huron shoreline through Saturday afternoon as winds and waves gradually subside. Calmer marine conditions are expected Sunday before strong southerly winds return late Monday, followed by a cold front that could bring wet snow by midweek.
