Jonathan Leeaveret Williams faces second-degree murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Harmond Ulmer in Detroit.

Detroit, MI – Jonathan Leeaveret Williams, 31, of Warren, has been charged with Second-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm in the fatal shooting of Harmond Ulmer, 31, of Detroit. According to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, the shooting followed a verbal altercation between the two men, who were reportedly coworkers.

Fatal Shooting Follows Escalation of Argument

The incident occurred on October 6, 2024, at approximately 11:29 p.m. Detroit police responded to reports of a shooting near the 12600 block of Artesian Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered Ulmer’s vehicle had crashed into a telephone pole, and Ulmer was found inside the car, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

It is alleged that an argument between Williams and Ulmer escalated, resulting in Williams producing a handgun and firing multiple shots, fatally wounding the victim.

Legal Proceedings Underway

Williams was arraigned on October 9, 2024, in 36th District Court before Magistrate Laura Echartea. He is currently remanded to jail without bond. A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 16, 2024, with a Preliminary Examination set for October 22, 2024, before Judge Aliyah Sabree. The charges are serious, but Williams, like all defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
