Oxford Man Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash on M-142 in Verona Township

Officers from the Huron County Sheriffs and emergency responders were sent to the scene of a two-vehicle fatal crash at M-142 and M-19 in Verona Township yesterday afternoon. (9/15)

In a release by the Huron County Sheriff, officers are investigating witness accounts indicating that a 2011 Chevrolet pickup being driven by sole occupant 35-year-old Jared M. Kubacki of Ubly was eastbound on M-142 when a northbound 2018 Dodge Caravan on M-19 did not completely stop at the signed intersection and turned into the path of the pickup. Unfortunately, the van’s driver, 69-year-old Robert A. Johnson of Oxford, died from injuries he received during the crash.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and had to be freed from the wreckage by the Bad Axe Fire Department. His passenger, wife Catherine L. Johnson, and the pickup driver were both transported by Central Huron Ambulance to McLaren Thumb Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Mrs. Johnson had to be transferred to an out-of-county hospital for specialized treatment. Accident investigators from the sheriff’s office processed the scene. An autopsy has been ordered.

Other agencies responding were the Huron County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Bad Axe and Ubly Police Departments.
