Michigan residents must act by Oct. 21 to register online or by mail for the upcoming Nov. 5 General Election.

Last Call for Online and Mail-In Voter Registration

The deadline to register online or by mail for Michigan’s Nov. 5 General Election is Monday, Oct. 21. Eligible citizens can submit their voter registration applications electronically via Michigan.gov/Vote or send their completed forms by mail or email to their local clerk’s office.

To be eligible, residents must be U.S. citizens, at least 17.5 years old (18 by Election Day), and not serving a jail or prison sentence. The website also allows users to check their voter registration status and find the contact details of their local clerks.

Absentee Ballots and Early Voting Options

Voters with absentee ballots are advised to mail them immediately to avoid postal delays or deliver them in person to local clerk offices or secure drop boxes. With the exception of overseas and military voters, all absentee ballots must arrive by 8 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.

Early voting sites open on Oct. 26 statewide, with Detroit, East Lansing, and Canton Township offering earlier in-person voting options starting on Oct. 19 and Oct. 21. Michigan’s constitution mandates at least nine days of early voting, though some clerks may provide up to 29 days.

Polling Hours for Election Day

On Election Day, Nov. 5, polls across Michigan will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can visit Michigan.gov/Vote for more details about their voting options and to find their local polling places.
