Caseville, MI – September 16, 2024: The Lake Township Board of Trustees convened for its regular meeting at the Lake Township Hall, with Vice-Chair Jim Deming presiding over the session in the absence of Supervisor Valerie McCallum. Key topics included budget reviews, staff appointments, and community inquiries.
Budget Review Postponed
The Board approved the addition of a second-quarter budget review to the agenda, but due to Supervisor McCallum’s absence, the discussion was postponed until the October meeting. Trustee Deming assured attendees that the review is on track and will be addressed next month.
New Inspector and Zoning Administrator Appointed
A significant portion of the meeting focused on staffing changes. The Board discussed and approved a new job description for the Zoning Administrator position. Following this, Terry Kelly, who currently serves as the Building Inspector/Zoning Administrator for the City of Caseville and Caseville Township, was appointed to both roles for Lake Township. The decision was unanimous, and Kelly accepted both positions.
Community Concerns and Questions
Resident Ann Krzmenski raised two concerns during the meeting. She inquired whether residents could pick up absentee voter (AV) ballots directly. Clerk Nicole Collins confirmed that AV ballots would be available for in-person pickup upon request. Krzmenski also suggested the installation of a backup generator system if a new township hall is built, a proposal the Board agreed to consider in future discussions.
Other Business and Reports
With the Supervisor absent, several agenda items were tabled, including discussions on the township property and hall project, as well as the Garage/Firewood Sale Ordinance. The Board confirmed that the 2023-24 audit is nearing completion, with final results expected soon.
Meeting Adjournment
The meeting concluded with the Board agreeing to pay all pending bills. The next regular meeting of the Lake Township Board of Trustees will take place on October 16, 2024, where postponed discussions are expected to resume.
