Crash On Oak Beach Road Kills 32-Year-Old Harbor Beach Motorcyclist

The Huron County Sheriff reported that they responded to a call at 11 pm Saturday, June 25th, at the intersection of M-53 and Oak Beach Road in Hume Twp. The Sheriff said that a fatal SUV/motorcycle crash had occurred at M-53 and Oak Beach Road, killing a 32-year-old Harbor Beach motorcyclist.

The investigation reveals that 58-year-old Michael E. Karinen of Imaly City was eastbound in his Subaru on Oak Beach Road when he apparently disregarded the stop sign at the intersection. This caused him to collide with 32-year-old Eldon C. Pierson of Harbor Beach, who was southbound on his Yamaha motorcycle.

Mr. Pierson died from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver and passenger were taken to McLaren Thumb Region Hospital and later transported to an out-of-county hospital to treat their injuries. This investigation continues, and Intoxication is likely a factor in this accident.

The Kinde Fire Department, Central Huron Ambulance, Elkton Ambulance Service, the Port Austin Police, and the Huron County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted in this investigation.
