A Gem on Lake Charlevoix’s Shore
Boyne City, MI – Nestled on the serene eastern shore of Lake Charlevoix, Young State Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Young State Park’s Spruce Campground, with its modern facilities, famous swimming beach, and a rich array of amenities, is a testament to Michigan’s natural beauty.
Spruce Campground Closure for Renovations

However, starting September 14, 2023, the park’s popular Spruce Campground has temporarily closed its doors. This closure marks the beginning of an extensive renovation project to elevate the visitor experience. The campground is expected to reopen in late summer 2024, unveiling its new and improved features.
Major Upgrades on the Horizon
The renovation, powered by $2.82 million in federal funding from Gov. Whitmer’s Building Michigan Together Plan, focuses on several critical improvements. These enhancements include addressing drainage issues, replacing toilet and shower facilities, paving roads, and upgrading old sewer pumps. Such upgrades promise to boost both the functionality and appeal of the campground.
The Young State Park Experience
While Spruce Campground transforms, visitors can still enjoy the park’s other offerings. With its proximity to Lake Charlevoix, the park is a hotspot for boating activities. Additionally, the nearby towns of Charlevoix, Boyne City, and East Jordan, known for their small-town charm, add to the park’s allure, especially during summer.
Looking Forward to 2024
Park officials and visitors alike highly anticipate the reopening of Spruce Campground in late summer 2024. These enhancements are expected to make Young State Park an even more attractive destination for nature lovers and families seeking the perfect outdoor retreat.
