The Detroit automaker’s latest innovation promises 690-mile extended range and exceptional towing and payload capabilities for full-size trucks and SUVs.
STLA Frame: A Game-Changer for Electric Trucks and SUVs
Stellantis N.V., the parent company of Jeep® and Ram, has unveiled its STLA Frame platform, a versatile, multi-energy architecture designed to power the next generation of full-size trucks and SUVs. Boasting up to 690 miles of range with a Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) system and 500 miles on pure battery power (BEV), the platform aims to deliver exceptional performance, durability, and flexibility to meet diverse customer needs.
The platform is set to debut in Ram and Jeep® brand vehicles, making it a cornerstone of Stellantis’ strategy to capture a larger share of the electrified truck and SUV market in North America and beyond.
“STLA Frame combines unprecedented range with new levels of capability and performance to offer best-in-class range, payload, and towing for our customers,” said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. “We’re proud of this engineering marvel and look forward to seeing it come to life in our upcoming product blitz on Jeep and Ram.”
Leading the Industry in Capability and Versatility
Designed specifically for full-size, body-on-frame vehicles, the STLA Frame offers:
- 690-mile range (REEV) and 500-mile range (BEV)
- Towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds
- Payload capacity of 2,700 pounds
- 24-inch water fording capability
The platform also features dual electric drive modules (EDMs) providing all-wheel drive and independent suspension for optimized handling. With 0-60 mph acceleration in just 4.4 seconds, the STLA Frame delivers the performance drivers expect from heavy-duty vehicles while maintaining efficiency and environmental benefits.
Future-Proofed Engineering and Charging Innovations
The STLA Frame’s modular design ensures longevity by accommodating emerging battery technologies and propulsion systems, including:
- 400-volt and 800-volt EV architectures
- Liquid-cooled battery packs ranging from 159 to over 200 kWh
- DC fast charging capabilities, adding 100 miles of range in 10 minutes
Additionally, vehicles built on the platform will include bi-directional charging, enabling features like vehicle-to-grid energy transfer, powering homes during emergencies, or even charging other EVs.
A Multi-Energy Platform for All Powertrains
The STLA Frame supports a wide range of propulsion technologies, including:
- Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)
- Range-Extended Electric Vehicles (REEVs)
- Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs)
- Hydrogen Fuel Cells
The REEV system is particularly innovative, using a generator powered by an internal combustion engine to recharge the battery on the go, ensuring extended range without direct mechanical connection to the wheels.
Key Dimensions and Features of the STLA Frame
Stellantis designed the platform with flexibility in mind, offering a range of sizes and configurations for full-size trucks and SUVs:
- Length: 216-234 inches
- Width: 81.2-83.6 inches
- Wheelbase: 123.7-145.3 inches
- Ground Clearance: 6.6-10.3 inches
Its high-strength steel construction enhances durability while reducing weight, and a full-length belly pan improves aerodynamics to maximize range.
Stellantis Invests Big in Electrification
The STLA Frame is part of Stellantis’ broader Dare Forward 2030 strategy, which includes a €50 billion investment in electrification. The company aims for 100% BEV sales in Europe and 50% BEV sales in the U.S. by 2030. This platform follows the successful rollout of the STLA Medium and STLA Large platforms, further cementing Stellantis’ commitment to sustainable innovation.
