Michigan Wind 1, owned and operated by John Deere Renewables, LLC, started spinning in December 2008. Consumers Energy purchases the electricity generated by the farm, which is located near Ubly in Michigan’s Thumb region. The Michigan Wind I farm has 46 turbines, each capable of producing 1.5 megawatts of electricity. The turbines are spread across some 6,000 acres owned by 100 property owners.
In December 2010 Exelon Corporation announced that it has completed its acquisition of John Deere Renewables, a leading operator and developer of wind power, adding 735 operating megawatts of renewable energy to Exelon’s holdings.
