Probable cases fluctuate daily based on the investigation efforts. When a probable case is reported staff investigates to determine if the person meets the case definition of probable. As additional information is gathered, the case could be reclassified to confirmed based on testing or remain probable or be not a case.

We all need to be a little more cognizant of our gatherings and social distancing. All the new cases are community-acquired. There is extensive spread amongst all age groups except for the 75 and older age group. We are not the only county experiencing this spread of infection, many communities including Bay, Saginaw, Lapeer, and Sanilac Counties. While we are hopeful that our community will continue to avoid the catastrophic levels of illness and mortality, we must double down on our efforts as school can undoubtedly have a major impact on the course of the virus in the community.

Please remember that this virus is incredibly contagious and will infect entire households and places of employment. It is important to remember that the virus can take up to 14 days to incubate inside of an individual, and the number of asymptomatic carriers is a great contributor to its spread. Therefore, wearing masks and social distancing is so very important to fight the corona virus in Michigan.

July 22, 2020, Possible Corona virus Community Exposure

The Huron County Health Department reports possible community exposure sites that were visited by a group of patrons between the hours of 8 pm, and 12:30 am on Saturday, July 11. From this group, several individuals have tested positive for Covid-19.

The sites are:

  • Ubly Pub, Ubly Michigan
  • Farmers Tavern, Ruth Michigan
  • Smalley’s Bar & Grill, Harbor Beach Michigan
  • The Gathering Place, Bad Axe Michigan

If you were at these locations during this period or shortly thereafter, the Health Department advises that you should self-quarantine, keeping away from family, friends, and roommates as much as possible. The HCHD also urges you to monitor yourself for symptoms of COVID-19 for up to 14 days since the date of exposure. Symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, headaches, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, congestion, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, and muscle or body aches.

If you have symptoms or visited these locations during the time of exposure, you are urged to be tested. Testing can be done without a doctor’s order at Great Lakes Healthcare Center at 876 North Van Dyke in Bad Axe. Its located behind the KFC and Taco Bell restaurants. Testing is conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 am to 12 pm.

The Corona Virus is still present and spreading in Michigan and Huron County. Individuals need to remain vigilant, wear a mask, practice social distancing, and continue good hygiene, such as washing your hands frequently. Anyone could have COVID-19 and could carry and spread the virus without symptoms. Everyone needs to take precautions to keep infections down and allow businesses to stay open.
