Apple Blossom Wind Farm – Huron County Michigan

Apple Blossom Wind Farm

Apple Blossom Wind Farm was constructed by Sempra Renewables. This is a 100-megawatt (MW) wind farm project located in Huron County, Michigan.  The wind farm’s footprint spans McKinley and Winsor Townships.

The project started construction in fall 2016. 29 wind turbines were erected and the project was completed in 2017. It’s 29 wind turbines generates enough electricity to power about 38,000 Michigan homes. The wind farm will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 205,000 tons each year, the equivalent of taking approximately 43,000 cars off the road. Power is supplied to Consumers Energy.

Sempra Renewables announced plans to sell its assets to a subsidiary of Columbus, Ohio-based American Electric Power Co. Inc. (AEP), for $1.1 billion. Sempra’s total portfolio includes 724 megawatts (MW) of wind energy and battery storage across the United States. AEP is a major investor-owned utility based in Ohio that also owns the largest electric transmission system in the country.
