A holiday lodge with a Thumb connection
Clyde and Jeanette Conely moved to the Soo area in 1920 and established the inn. Their connections with Brown City and Sandusky link this Chippewa County resort with Michigan's Thumb. The episode follows that family connection alongside the property's later association with Camp Conely.
Interior views show the stone fireplace and the furniture arranged for guests. Wicker seating, an upright piano and sleeping rooms present the inn as a place to stay for more than a brief roadside stop. Outside, automobiles and gasoline pumps connect the waterfront resort with the growth of road travel.
Lodging, mail and river traffic
One postcard identifies the inn and post office together. That pairing placed a local service beside the visitor business at the riverfront property. Passing steamers and small boats complete the setting, showing how vacation travel met everyday activity on the St. Marys River.
