Menominee
Historical photographs trace Menominee from its lumber economy into the manufacturing, transportation and recreation businesses of the early 1900s through the 1940s. River log drives, railroad depots and downtown streets show the work that connected this Upper Peninsula city with Green Bay and the wider Great Lakes region.
The video includes the Hotel Menominee, snowbound electric streetcars, Lloyd Manufacturing’s wicker furniture business and commercial fishing operations. Smelt dipping on the Menominee River and concerts at the beach bandshell show another side of community life. Views of St. Joseph’s Hospital and the tourist lodge place public services alongside the mills, factories and waterfront.
