The bluffs along the Pinnebog River at Port Crescent State Park offer some of the best views in Michigan’s Thumb region. Overlooking the river’s final stretch before it meets Lake Huron, these elevated areas provide a scenic backdrop of forests, dunes, and wetlands. Hikers can explore the Pinnebog River Trail, which winds through wooded bluffs and offers glimpses of local wildlife, including eagles, herons, and deer. The park’s history adds another layer of interest, as it was once home to the 19th-century lumber town of Port Crescent, remnants of which can still be found within the park.
In addition to hiking, visitors can paddle along the Pinnebog River, taking in the peaceful landscape before reaching Lake Huron. The area is also a prime spot for birdwatching and photography, with a diverse range of species drawn to the river and surrounding habitat.
