State Surplus Sale Promises Holiday Bargains for Michiganders

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB) is gearing up for its next state surplus sale, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, from 8 a.m. to noon. Held at 3111 W. St. Joseph St, Building 600, Lansing, the event provides a unique opportunity for holiday shoppers to snag one-of-a-kind items at bargain prices.

A Treasure Trove of Surplus Goods

The sale will feature a diverse inventory, including:

  • Toys and clothing.
  • Cleaning supplies and sporting goods.
  • Tools, desks, file cabinets, and chairs.
  • Bookshelves and assorted fashion accessories.

The items come from sources such as property seized by the Michigan State Police, goods voluntarily surrendered at airports, and surplus government property. While the items are sold “as is” and all sales are final, the variety and affordability promise to attract a wide range of shoppers.

Convenient Payment Options and Logistics

Both cash and credit cards will be accepted for payment, making transactions quick and accessible. However, shoppers should note that no loading assistance will be provided, so bringing help for large or heavy items is advisable.

For those unable to attend the December sale, the next in-person event is already on the calendar for Friday, March 7, 2025, offering another chance to explore the surplus inventory.

DTMB Surplus Program Encourages Sustainability

The state surplus program not only offers affordable options for consumers but also supports sustainability by repurposing unused or seized items. Shoppers can feel good knowing their purchases help reduce waste while benefiting public programs.
