Fugitive on the Run from Detroit Trial After Fentanyl Case Indictment

The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force is seeking public assistance to locate Hugh Lusk, a man charged with distributing a controlled substance causing death. Lusk, who was scheduled to appear for trial in September in the Eastern District of Michigan, has been on the run since failing to appear in court.

Lusk’s charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) following the death of a victim from a fentanyl overdose, which led to Lusk’s federal indictment. The case highlights the ongoing challenges posed by the distribution of fentanyl—a potent synthetic opioid that has fueled overdose crises in Michigan and across the country.

U.S. Marshals Warn of Danger, Seek Public Assistance

Authorities describe Hugh Lusk as a Black male, standing approximately 6 feet tall and weighing between 200 and 225 pounds. He is known to have brown eyes and either a bald head or short hair with a beard. Lusk is believed to adhere to sovereign citizen ideologies—a movement often associated with anti-government beliefs and behavior that can pose unique risks to law enforcement.

Lusk, considered armed and dangerous, was last seen in the Lincoln Park area and may be driving an older model red Chevrolet Silverado bearing Michigan license plate DE22011. The U.S. Marshals Service has stressed the potential danger Lusk poses to the public and is urging anyone with information to come forward. “Mr. Lusk represents a clear danger to the citizens of Detroit and the Eastern District of Michigan,” said Owen Cypher, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Michigan. “While he is presumed innocent, he must be brought to justice to face these charges.”

Public Safety and How to Provide Tips

Residents are asked to remain vigilant. If you have any information regarding Lusk’s whereabouts, please contact the U.S. Marshals Service tip line at (866) 865-TIPS (8477) or the USMS Detroit office at (313) 202-6458. Tips can also be submitted online via the USMS Tips App or through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.

The U.S. Marshals Service remains committed to public safety and the apprehension of dangerous fugitives. Community cooperation is seen as vital in resolving cases involving individuals like Lusk, whose criminal activities have profound and sometimes deadly consequences.
