Driver’s Attempt to Avoid Collision Leads to Semi-Truck Overturn
BUEL TOWNSHIP — A single-vehicle accident involving a 2004 Western Star semi-truck disrupted traffic on Peck Road on Saturday afternoon, October 26, when the truck overturned while attempting to avoid a potential collision, according to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 12:50 p.m. just west of Fargo Road in Buel Township. Deputies and first responders from Croswell Police, Fire, and EMS units arrived on the scene following a report to Sanilac County Central Dispatch.
The semi-truck, driven by a 24-year-old man from Peck, was traveling eastbound when he encountered a vehicle stopped in the roadway, preparing to turn left into a private driveway. In an attempt to prevent a rear-end collision, the truck driver moved to the shoulder to pass the stopped vehicle but lost control, resulting in the semi overturning onto its side.
Minor Injuries Reported, Driver Treated at Local Hospital
Emergency responders transported the driver to Port Huron McLaren Hospital with minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s report. Officials confirmed that the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and alcohol or drugs were not contributing factors.
There were no reported injuries to other individuals involved. The vehicle that caused the truck’s sudden maneuver remained undamaged, as the truck overturned during the driver’s attempt to avoid impact.
Road Safety in Question as Crash Highlights Common Risks
Although this incident resulted in only minor injuries, it underscores the ongoing dangers on rural roads, particularly where traffic must frequently slow down for driveways and turn-offs. Local authorities are urging drivers to remain cautious and aware when traveling on Peck Road and other rural routes in Sanilac County.
